BASINGSTOKE and North Hants bounced back to winning ways, with a 114 runs victory at Totton and Eling in the Southern League Division One.

The home side won the toss and elected to field and had both openers Chris Froud (9) and Mitch Stokes (25) back in the pavilion with just 39 on the board.

After this, three half centuries from Max Harsham (52), Dan Belcher (51) and Ben Julin (50) set up an excellent score to defend for the Bountymen.

Harsham and Belcher added 90 for the third wicket, before Harsham’s 63-ball knock which included seven fours, was ended as he was caught by Daniel Collier off the bowling of Ethan Taylor.

The same combination struck again to dismiss Belcher (82-ball six fours) to leave the visitors on 171-4.

Joe Oates (5) and Martyn James (6) were then both run out as the Bountymen passed 200.

Julin was the seventh man out after an excellent 46-ball 50 which included four fours and four sixes.

Chris Jolley (21) from 13 balls, saw him hit two to the boundary rope and one over it and Matt Thankachan (21) added even more runs from the tail as Basingstoke were all out for 269.

In reply Totton were all out for 155, as the visitors used eight bowlers and all of them took wickets.

Martyn James (1-21) was the first to strike removing opener Jack Mellett (1) and then Graham Porter (2-26) dismissed Sam Metcalfe (12) and Mark Mbofana (8) to leave the home side on 28-3.

Jimmy Taylor (24) top scored for Totton’s top order, but was bowled by Stokes (2-20) and Tobias Beresford-Power was trapped leg before by the same bowler.

Ethan Taylor was then the sixth man out as Chris Jolley (1-23) struck.

Christopher Thomason stuck around for 39 balls for his three, before being caught by Julin off the bowling of Thankachan (1-24).

Tom Rouse (40) then took on the Basingstoke attack as he hit five fours and two sixes, before being removed by Julin (1-22).

It was left to Belcher (1-9) and Joe Oates (1-6) to complete the victory with the final two wickets as the home side were all out in the 45th over.

The Bountymen will hope to build on this winning performance when they are at home to Rowledge next weekend.
