JORDAN Collard was the latest member of the Collard motor racing family to stand on the podium this season.

The Ginetta Junior driver followed in the footsteps of older brother Ricky Collard and father Rob Collard, when he finished second in the rookie class in the first race at Oulton Park.

The youngster in his first season in this competition finished 11th overall, having started from 17th on the grid.

Collard looked set for another good finish in his second outing of the weekend, but having moved into the top 10, he was knocked off the track and had to settle for 13th.

A very proud dad Rob Collard said: “It was great to see Jordan’s hard work rewarded with a place on the podium.”

Collard senior was also in action in the same meeting in the British Touring Car Championships and had a very eventful day on the track.

Collard had a really tough qualifying with the extra weight on board because he was joint leader in the drivers’ championship going into the meeting.

He started the first race well down in 16th place and was cutting his way through the field and was nearly in the top 10.

Disaster then struck as he was spun round by Jeff Smith and this saw him relegated to the back of the pack.

The Hook racer fought his way back again, but had to settle for 23rd in his first outing at the Cheshire track.

Collard then produced a storming drive in race two and was up to sixth. He then tangled with Josh Cook being squeezed into the pit wall and seconds later had a puncture.

After his heroics in race two, amazingly Collard was able to repeat the feat in race three coming from 25th to sixth.

This result left him third in the drivers’ championship on 113 points, which is 26 points behind new leader Sam Tordoff his West Surrey Racing team mate.

After his eventful weekend, Collard said : “ The first race was disastrous for me as I took a whack at the hairpin.

“After race two I was absolutely devastated and I was really pleased I was able to do it again in race three.”

This weekend, Jordan and Rob are in action at Croft and having won the last race at the Yorkshire track last time around Collard is hoping for the same again.

The Hook racer said: “ I am looking forward to Croft as it has been a good track for the BMWs in the past.

l Last weekend, Rob’s eldest son Ricky Collard was in action at Silverstone in the latest rounds of the British Formula Three Championship.

He did not have best of weekends not being able to add to recent race wins.

He came fourth in race one and was then knocked off in race two as he battled with the leaders and had to settle for 13th place.

The final race of the weekend at the Northamptonshire circuit was abandoned due to very heavy rain, which flooded the track.

Despite not living up to his high standards at recent meetings Collard still leads the championship, even if his lead has been cut to 19 points.

The teenager will next be in action on the weekend of July 8 and 9, when Spa in Belgium hosts rounds 16,17 and 18.
