BASINGSTOKE and North Hants’ second team’s reign at the top of the Southern League Division Three came to an end after they lost their 100 per cent record at Gosport Borough.

The Bountymen losing by 18 runs after they were bowled out for 153 trying to chase down 172 for victory.

Michael Pullen top scored for the home side with 53, while Craig Williamson (3-35) and Matt Thankachan (2-24) did well with the ball.

The Bountymen were soon in trouble with openers Richard Vinn and Williamson both out with only 10 on the board.

Thankachan (40) and Dan Coombs (10) added 50 for the third wicket, but the visitors then lost both and Callum Coombs all departed with the score on 70.

Captain Steve Bucksey (36) with a late cameo got them into range, before being the last man as they fell short of their target in the 48th over. Basingstoke II are next in action at home to lowly Hursley Park this weekend.
