TWO teenage dancers from Basingstoke Georgina McGuigan and Jasmine Dolton will be taking part in the Danceworld Cup finals at St Helier, Jersey from Saturday until July 2.

Both dancers fought off 1000’s of entries to be one of only two in each dance category to represent Team England, so this is a big achievement for both dancers.

Danceworld Cup has in total over 12,000 competitors from 38 countries battling it out to make the finals each year.

Both dancers train at the M and M Academy of Arts which holds classes at Everest Community Academy and Westside Community Centre.

Senior Modern competitor McGuigan (18), started dancing at the age of six and has been with the academy for 12 years and is entered in the modern jazz category.

Dolton who will compete in the Acro category started dancing at the age nine and joined the academy two years later.

Both girls train eight to 10 hours a week covering all disciplines from ballet, tap, modern, acro to commercial dance.

Dance teachers and principals of the school Maxine Hadley and Amanda Fox Emerson are thrilled for their two girls to represent England in such a fantastic event.

In the 18 years of the school running, this ranks in one of the highest achievements by their pupils.

Dolton said: “Before I joined M and M academy of arts I didn’t have much confidence in acrobatics. Thanks to the training from my dance teachers Maxine and Mandy and for always supporting and believing in me.

"I wouldn’t be were I am now competing in the dance World Cup in the acrobatic section. "

McGuigan said: “I can’t wait to represent my country, it’s such an incredible opportunity and I am so thankful to Maxine and Mandy for everything they’ve done over the past 12 years.”
