HARTLEY Wintney’s hopes of a hat-trick of wins were dashed as a heavy downpour ended their Southern League Division Three clash with visiting Tichborne Park .

The visitors had reached 54-2, before the game was ended after 5.4 overs.

Opener Justin Reid top scored with 38 from 23 balls which included six fours.

He was trapped leg before by Chris Saville (1-31) from 2.4 overs.

New Hartley signing from Fair Oak Ben Hyde (1-31), took the other wicket as he caught and bowled George Ayling (9).

Hartley skipper Danny Plume said: “It was disappointing for the game to end this way as we were really looking forward to it.

“They had made a good start, but if we had taken another couple of wickets we would have been back in the game.” Hartley will hope for better luck with the weather next weekend, when they travel to second placed Sparsholt.
