HOOK and Newnham Basics are now up to third in the Southern League Division One table and will be looking to keep their title hopes on track this weekend.

However, on Saturday they have a tricky looking trip to former leaders Portsmouth, who are now fourth in the standings.

When Pompey made the trip to the King George V Playing Fields earlier in the campaign as leaders, they looked in good shape at 135-3, before rain wiped out the game.

This was when the Portsmouth side were unbeaten, but they have now lost three times.

On Sunday, Hook are on their travels again this time to South Wilts for the T20 Cup quarter-final clash.

Skipper Matt Love and wicketkeeper Josh Buckingham are unavailable this weekend, so Ben Thane will skipper the side and Matt Buckingham takes over the gloves.

Looking ahead to the weekend, Love said: “We have a couple of tough games this weekend, but I still feel the team has a few more gears to go up to.”

Harry Came had a great day with bat and ball as Hook beat leaders Sarisbury Athletic by six wickets.

The teenager took four wickets and then scored an unbeaten 52 to guide his side to victory.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat and were bowled out for 209, thanks to Came (4-45) and Jordan Hobday (3-40).

The home side suffered the early loss of Kieran Thomson and Hobday, but opener Ben Thane (72) and captain Matt Love (39) set about plotting the home side’s victory.

It was left to Came and Nick Willcock (11) to complete the job with eight overs to spare.
