BASINGSTOKE and North Hants failed in their attempt to move up the Southern League Division One table, as they lost by 10 runs at new leaders Andover.

Bountymen skipper Mitch Stokes won the toss at London Road and elected to put the home side into bat.

All of Andover’s top four did well with opener Storm Green (51) top scoring and he was well supported by Ali Hooper (34), Glyn Treagus (30) and James O’Gorman (47).

Ryan Connor (4-56) proved to be the top Basingstoke bowler, but some good late hard hitting from Andover saw them end on 248-8.

Daniel Belcher (30) and Craig Williamson (29) made a solid start in the Bountymen’s reply, as they put on 55 for the first wicket.

However, Will Phillips (89 not out), Brad Neal (38) and Matt Thankachan (17) were the only other players to make double figures.

In the end, Phillips ran out of partners as Basingstoke were all out for 238.

Mike Adams (3-57) led the home bowling attack.

Next up for Basingstoke is a home game with Totton and Eling.
