OLD Basing Archers enjoyed success at their Siege Shoot held last weekend which attracted just short of 100 archers.

This included some of the UK’s top ranking competitors shooting a range of disciplines including modern Olympic Recurve, Compound and English Longbows.

The competition was supported by The Archery Shop.co.uk who generously donated a £1,000 prize fund along with Arrow Socks donating vouchers for the prizes awarded by The Lady Paramount.

The Old Basing Recreation ground was a perfect venue with thankfully perfect weather to host the event, all competitors were highly complementary of the location, set up and care taken to maintain the ground to such a high standard Old Basing Archer, Mark Haldane scored 1368/1440 to secure fourth place in the Men’s Compound round, fellow club member Penny Jubin won the Ladies Longbow round - a full 80 points ahead second place.

Jim Yates was placed third in Men’s Longbow and in the Cadet rounds, Jacob Caine, again from Old Basing secured second place against strong competition. Jo Long who has only recently taken up the sport came third for Ladies Barebow.

Elisa Ball from CMO Bowmen in London set a new UK Record with a superb score of 726 for the under-16 Barebow category.

Tournament organiser Andy Caine said: "This is the first time Old Basing Archers has staged a UK Record Status shoot, based on feedback from both archers and judges we will certainly be making this an annual event - next year we hope to upgrade it to a World Record Status shoot.

"This will be particularly exciting as 2017 is our 50th anniversary year and it’s fantastic to bring this level of sporting event to our village.”

He added: "OId Basing Archers is going from strength to strength; we currently have close to 100 shooting members ranging from 11 years old through to members who have been shooting at the club for nearly 50 years. We cater for all abilities and have members who shoot occasionally to those who shoot competitively most weekends at many national competitions around the country. That's the beauty of archery; it can be practised by all abilities and ages - shooting side by side."
